CSI In The Domiciliary Care Sector

CSI Market Intelligence has taken its long term social care experience into the home care sector with the publication of a detailed market report and by expanding its personalised MIDAS market reports.

Just published, the Domiciliary Care in England Market Report 2021 analyses recent trends, provider shares and regional breakdown as well as featuring more in depth data on openings and closures during 2020 and is available free online. Despite the Coronavirus pandemic on average around 20 new homecare offices opened its doors every week in 2020, and although there were also closures, there was a 5% increase in the total number of locations, a sizeable annual increase in what is already a mature market.

CSI Founder and Director Mike Short says, “whilst we have supported clients in the homecare sector in the past, we have to date focused our reporting and market data products within the care home sector. But having looked at the way home care seems to be expanding we thought we would move more fully into this interesting sector.”

As an example of the type of company providing homecare, eleven out of the fourteen local authorities in the South West region do not have any direct provision from the relevant authority, whilst in North Yorkshire one in seven locations were provided by that local authority.

And whilst around 84% of locations are provided by a private company, the not for profit sector market share is four times greater in the North East than it is in the East Midlands.

MIDAS was created in house by CSI around 8 years ago and has been commissioned to provide care providers with detailed local market information, providing them with useful data as to whether or not to proceed with a new build or purchase of an existing home. The report can also improve the performance of an existing home, helping operators hone their marketing activity to enlist more residents, and improve occupancy levels.

This same information, which works outwards from any postcode in England, is now available to the home care sector.
